Pilates for pregnancy

Pilates is an ideal exercise during pregnancy. The exercises are taylored for the needs of each individual, expecting mother. Our classes will allow you to live through your pregnancy more comfortably and develop an endurance that will prepare you for birth.

Pilates for pregnancy

After the first trimester, the focus on the abdominal muscles becomes less emphasised, hence to maintain good posture it is important to focus on the pelvic floor muscles, the back and leg muscles. This also helps you to keep your strength and build muscle endurance to flow through your pregnany and birth.

Pilates also tones the muscles of your arms, shoulders and upper back, which will prepare you physically to take care of your baby (breastfeeding, carrying, bathing, picking up the pram, capsule...). When you develop awareness in these muscles it helps quiten down the neck muscles which very often are responsible for headaches, neck pain, tendinitis...

Pregnancy is a time in your life where your body is constantly changing, physiologically and mechanically. Pilates prevents and gently corrects bad postures which can if ignored create discomfort, headaches and persistant muscular pain. It also increases your sense of well being and the bonding with your child.

Our Pilates sessions for expecting mums are given by appointment in private sessions or small groups of maximum 3 people.

Pilates is practiced worldwide and is famous for new mums getting their figure back after their baby is born. 6 weeks after birth you can start Pilates sessions for new mums and even participate with your newborn baby!

"My obstetrician was surprised to see me move with such ease..."

Here is a testimony of Elena Tozer, primary school teacher and mum of twins, Zac and Lana, who have followed pregnancy Pilates classes and Osteopathy in Australia:

Thank you Geraldine for looking after my body, health and wellbeing throughout the past three years and also that of my husband and children.

Your osteopathic practice and pilates instruction has kept my body strong and enabled me to comfortably see though the pregnancy and birth of our twins. When my obstetrician saw me at 8 months pregnant he commented on how well I carried myself and was surprised to see me move with such ease. I credited this to you.

You are an extremely dedicated, non judgmental and compassionate individual. One who practices with the most outstanding professional manners that I have ever seen in a health care professional. We will miss you.

Another testimonial from Gaelle Patterson, Nestlé représentative and mum of Hugo :

"I recently arrived in Australia and was looking for a physiotherapist when I came across Géraldine's osteopathy. From the first session, where Geraldine asked me so many questions and checked out my movements, I felt she was not only a thorough but a caring professional whose motivation is seeing improvement in patients. Géraldine treated me throughout my pregnancy both in osteopathy and in pilates and despite having a birth plan involving epidural, I actually had a drug-free labour and really fast recovery, with no bladder issues - all of this I solely attribute to how well Geraldine helped me condition my body, from the inside out. Thank you Géraldine."
